Saving Hawaiiʻs Forests 501(c)(3)
At Saving Hawaii's Forests, our mission aligns with the Hawaiian saying, "Ola ka ʻĀina, Ola ke Kanaka"—"When the Land lives, the People live." We focus on revitalizing and protecting native Hawaiian forests by restoring lost forest zones.
Through partnerships and donations, we support sustainability programs that address climate change, reforestation, and cultural education. These efforts include hands-on planting projects with diverse groups like Habilitat residents, cultural practitioners, and local organizations, fostering restored ecosystems and habitats for native wildlife.
Currently planting in Kealakekua on Hawai`i Island, we care for these forests in protected, well-managed sites to ensure their long-term health. Hawaii has lost 90% of its endemic forests, making our work critical in addressing climate change, watershed protection, and ecological restoration.
Your support helps rebuild Hawaii's forests, repair ecological damage, and preserve the unique heritage of these islands. Together, we embody the spirit of Aloha, creating a sustainable future for the land and its people.
Rebuilding and Protecting Hawaii's Forests
Years ago, the pristine native forests of Hawaiʻi fell victim to clearing for ranching purposes, paving the way for invasive flora and fauna to establish dominance, and pushing native species perilously close to extinction. It is a startling fact that, despite Hawaiʻi's landmass accounting for less than 1% of the United States, it shoulders the burden of sheltering 44% of the nation's endangered and threatened species, as reported by DLNR (Department of Land and Natural Resources). Our mission is to breathe life back into these devastated landscapes by planting 196,000 endemic plant species on the slopes of Mauna Loa on Hawaiʻi Island, rekindling the lost forests and allowing them to flourish once more. Our efforts are powered by compassionate individuals dedicated to making a positive impact on our precious natural ecosystems.
Make This World a Greener Place
Your support is not only an investment in the rejuvenation of Hawaiian forests but also a testament to the spirit of "Aloha" and a commitment to nurturing these beloved islands while educating our community. Together, we can protect and revitalize Hawaii's precious natural heritage.
