Kanileʻa Artists in 16 Hōkū Categories
The preliminary ballot is out for the 2019 Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards and we’re pretty stoked at how awesome our Kanileʻa Family of Artists are doing. There are Kanileʻa artists in 16 categories!! Now, while this is just the preliminaries, we still want to wish good luck to all who submitted their musical work for consideration.
OLA KA ʻĀINA WOULD LOVE YOUR VOTE
In fact, our first venture into musical recording is also on the preliminary ballot. Ola Ka ʻĀina, released on September 9, 2018, is the musical celebration of 20 years in the `ukulele manufacturing industry for Kanile`a. Every track is an original song written and performed by a Kanile`a artist or group. Not only are the songs uplifting and joyful, but all proceeds from the sale of Ola Ka ʻĀina go to reforestation efforts on Hawaiʻi island through Reforest Hawaiʻi and the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization Saving Hawaiʻi’s Forests.
HOW VOTING WORKS
This first round of voting goes to the general membership of the Hawaiʻi Academy of Recording Arts (HARA). Per the official website for HARA:
“An accounting firm tabulates the votes and the five recordings with the most votes in each category proceed to the final ballot.
“For the technical categories (graphics and liner notes) committees are established to select the five finalists on the final ballot. The accounting firm tabulates the votes for the final ballot and the winners are announced at our award ceremonies.
“A committee of Hawaiian language and music specialists selects the adjudicated categories.
“The Favorite Entertainer of the Year Award is selected by public voting conducted via an online voting process.”
The 16 categories do not include the technical or adjudicated categories.
Final awards will be presented Saturday, May 25, 2019 at the Hawai`i Convention Center. The 2019 Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards will be televised locally and streamed live online as well.
